The First year students from the Design Intelligence for Creative Economy (DICE) program presented “Imbalance Monsters,” led by A. Pat Pattarapongmanee with special collaboration from K. Wishulada, one of Thailand’s renowned artists known for her work with recycled and discarded materials.

The project explored renewable materials, upcycling, and sustainability through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students transformed recycled and discarded materials into sculptural works that represent different kinds of imbalance environmental issues, inequality, stress, overconsumption, and unfair systems such as education, opportunity, and access to resources.

They represent the things that slowly consume our society and our lives without us always noticing.

Through this project, students were encouraged to think about materials differently not just as objects, but as stories, systems, and consequences of how we live. Waste became material, material became form, and form became a message.

We would also like to sincerely thank Goethe-Institut for generously providing the space and supporting these young designers and their work.
